Harmonic Imaging sound Technology
Kawai is known for its top class concert grand pianos, especially the Kawai EX Concert Piano. With the "Harmonic Imaging" process, which is a new proprietary process developed by Kawai, the sounds from the Kawai EX Concert Piano are recorded in one of their labs and the same samples are then used in the Kawai digital pianos. Harmonic Imaging Technology gives a new level of authenticity to the instrumental sounds produced by their digital pianos.
Digital Piano Key Actions
For a digital Piano to replicate an acoustic Piano, not only the sound has to be good, it also needs to replicate the feel of the acoustic piano. Kawai, because of its experience with acoustic pianos, has understood this need and that is the reason Kawai digital pianos have real wooden keys to get that perfect "feel".
Kawai Digital Piano in Worship Service
I was honored to be a Music Minister at a church in Worcester, Massachusetts, for three years. The church community was very supportive of my ministry and invested in a Kawai CA51 digital piano. We held a small “coffee house” style concert on a Friday night and raised nearly all the money we needed! A yard sale and bake sale later, we were 100% ready to take delivery.
Kawai digital piano offers a worship leader so much:
During the first service with the Kawai CA51, I began a prelude with a Michael W. Smith song. I had the Concert Grand piano sound with slow, Orchestral Strings, but I turned down the Strings volume with the slider on the front panel. As the song progressed, I moved the slider and allowed the orchestral strings to swell up behind the grand piano. The results were amazing with most congregants wiping away tears and all congregants leaping to their feet upon the last note. Wow -- what an inspiration for all of us!
Another opportunity to show off the versatility of the CA51 came during a quiet time with the minister leading us in prayer. I began playing the guitar sound, which is a nylon string (Classical Spanish-style) sound – then layered in the sound of a choir gently behind to support the message.
Finally, when the kids were brought in from Sunday school at the end, we did “He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands”. I found the perfect rhythm and put a bass sound on my left hand and a gospel organ on my right. I turned he rotary speaker effect on and off with the left pedal and I felt like I had a whole musical praise team… but it was just me and the Kawai CA51! It was hugely motivating and fun.
There wasn’t one member of the congregation who wasn’t thrilled with our investment. I know I was!

We Do Not Currently Carry Pianos Made in China
You should be aware that the U.S. is being flooded with inexpensive pianos made in China, most with American or Germany sounding names like Wagner, Hallet & Davis, August Hoffman, Cristofori, etc. Companies like Yamaha and Steinway are marketing some Chinese-made pianos under different brand names (Cable-Nelson and Essex). Now even Baldwin pianos are made in China!
Although the quality of these pianos has improved somewhat over the past few years, very few are well-rated. Due to our large sales volume our prices are competitive with Chinese-made pianos, however we do not sell any new pianos that are made in China. As manufacturing and pricing of these pianos improves, we will continue to consider representing them.
